Owler Dark Spiced Rum

With a base of black treacle and the distinctive flavour of tonka beans, Anno’s Dark Spiced Rum takes you to a time of smugglers, their lanterns shining dimly against a rough seascape. Owlers operated in Kent, working at night and signalling with covert owl calls and secret signs. These smugglers transported valuable wool out of the country, a lifeline for farmers whose livelihoods had been destroyed by erratic export bans and heavy duties. The Owlers dodged both the Taxman and the local Dragoons, risking execution to perform hard labour for twelve pence a day.

Fermented and distilled in Kent with a melange of botanicals and spices using a fusion of Caribbean and English brewing styles, we tuned Patience to replicate the smoothness and characteristic flavour of a Jamaican double-retort still, infused with American Oak and Kentish Applewood.

Available in single 70cl bottles, cases and 5cl miniature bottles which make great wedding favours.

ABV: 40% (Vegan and Vegetarian friendly).

Botanicals

Ginger when distilled adds sweet autumnal notes, complimenting the spicy orange and adding extra depth and complexity.

Orange blossom is the fragrant flower of the orange tree. Similar in aroma and flavour to the fruit but with a more subtle and floral citrus flavour.

Although thought similar in taste to star anise and fennel, the liquorice plant is unrelated as it is actually a legume associated to the family of beans and peas. The name liquorice was derived from the Greek word meaning sweet root, descriptive of its long lasting, mellow, sweet, woody flavour.

Angelica, also known as Holy Ghost or Wild Celery, grows in many countries of the Northern Hemisphere and is often found near rivers and lakes in damp soil.  Cultivated in the 10th century as a medicinal plant, angelica’s sweetly scented edible roots add a nicely balanced earthy and floral combination to our Kent Dry Gin.

Cardamom works very well when combined with orange and juniper, adding perfumed herbal notes.

This traditional winter spice is native to the Indonesian Maluku Islands. We use Cloves to give our Cranberry & Gin a unique aromatic flavour, that is simultaneously strong, sweet and peppery.

A Medium Roast ensures a balanced flavour, with tasting notes of Chocolate, Toffee & Caramel dancing on your palate, accented by a subtle fruitiness that adds a delightful twist.

A true gem sourced from the beautiful region of Paranaiba in Brazil. Grown with utmost care on the renowned Sucuri Farm, this coffee embodies the dedication and passion of the esteemed farmer, Mr. Barbosa. With an altitude of 1100 MASL, the beans thrive in the perfect environment, resulting in a flavour profile that will captivate your senses.

Considered one of the 50 fundamental herbs in Chinese medicine Cassia is often used as an alternative to cinnamon, which is in the same family and genus.  This often leads to confusion between the two botanicals in both taste and texture.  Cassia bark adds a strong cinnamon style flavour with an extra peppery punch.

Cocoa balances the sweetness of the fruit and has traditionally been paired with strawberries in desserts.
